Our Rosemary Essential Oil (Salvia rosmarinus - previously called Rosmarinus officinalis) was steam distilled from organically-grown rosemary in Maroni. We also receive small contributions of rosemary from gardens of members of our community, in Troodos, Paphos district and elsewhere in Cyprus. Our last batch of Rosemary was distilled in December, 2025.
We steam distill it for around four hours, and the yield is about 0.75%.
The chemotype of our Rosemary Essential Oil is camphor. The main chemical components of our Rosemary Essential Oil are: a-Pinene (20%), Camphor (19%), 1,8 cineole (18%), Camphene (9%), b-Pinene (4%), Verbenone (3%), Lemonene (3%), and Myrcene (3%).
Rosemary is an evergreen aromatic shrub that can be primarily found in the Mediterranean region. Its botanical name means sea-dew.
Since ancient times, it has been known as a memory herb. Rosemary is considered a memory booster and in ancient Greek mythology it was associated with the first-generation goddess Mnemosyne (Μνημοσύνη) whose name exactly means memory. Greek scholars often wore a garland of rosemary on their heads to help their memory during examinations. In ancient temples, rosemary was often being burned to cleanse and uplift the spirit and also protect from evil.
Rosemary is also associated with death and remembrance. In Egyptian tombs, traces of rosemary were found, as this herb was a combonent of embalming.
Rosemary was also used to soothe muscle and joint pain, reduce inflammation and to relieve bronchial congestion.
While our Rosemary Essential Oil is edible, we recommend using our Rosemary Grapeseed Oil for ingestion or for skincare.
