Our Distilled Mandarin (Citrus reticulata) Essential Oil is produced from green and nearly-matured fruits, from a local citrus farm in Cyprus and a partner’s garden in Chirokitia. First we juice the fruits and remove the seeds, and we distill the skins for around 2 to 2.5 hours. This season (2025-2026), mandarin is the only distilled essential oil of the citrus variety that we’ve produced. Distilled citrus essential oils have more of a candy, sweet smell, like a gummy bear or soft drink, as compared to the aroma of a freshly-peeled fruit. We think distilled mandarin still has a unique and appealing smell and is great for flavoring (desserts or cocktails), and also for body oils, since distilled citrus oils are not phototoxic (compared to express citrus essential oils). It’s also great in the diffuser!
