Liven Essentials Cyprus
Bay Laurel Essential Oil
Bay Laurel Essential Oil
Our Bay Laurel Essential Oil was steam-distilled in January 2024. We source our bay laurel from prunings and branches and leaves that are discarded from an exporter because they aren’t symmetrical enough for foreign markets.
Bay laurel is an evergreen shrub/tree native to the Mediterranean region and known culinary herb. Bay laurel essential oil can be used in the kitchen - one or two drops - in place of a bay leaf, and also can be added to zivania to make a digestif. Bay laurel is also well-known - along with rosemary - to support hair follicle health. We’ve incorporated it into our most recent batch of seasonal hair and beard oil.
Throughout the ages bay laurel was associated with victory, nobility and protection.
Bay laurel has a long history of local and regional use in traditional medicine. In Cyprus, women would inhale the steam from bay leaves and myrtle to recover from childbirth. It is known to combat weariness and degeneration, and stimulate the body and mind. Bay leaves were also used as protection from food and cloth moths, and even burned as a spiritual incense.
It is an important tree for prophecy and divination, the Bay Laurel has a special relationship with the Pythia (Oracle of Delphi) and the Greek god Apollo; its leaves are burned to encourage visions or used in the casting of lots.
