Monthly Artisan and Farmers Market Launching!

Monthly Artisan and Farmers Market Launching!

One of our commitments to our community is that absolutely every product we make and sell in our shop (or website) is 100% made in Cyprus from local raw materials, without exception. The only thing we sell that's imported are the bottles and labels on our products. This is in keeping with with Cyprus' historic position as a producer and exporter of perfumes and aromatic plant products, where at the 4000-year old perfume factory found in Pyrgos the only imported materials were the alabaster bottles.

There are many business-related and philosophical/ideological reasons behind this approach, but most importantly we do it to tighten up our community here in Cyprus. When the raw material travels less, and goes directly into production, it improves the quality of the product. The same is true for the path from our production to consumption. The less it travels and the less it is stored, the lower the energy cost and the higher the freshness, and therefore quality. We don't tinker with the finished product to make it more shelf-stable because we don't have to, it goes directly and quickly to the consumer. That also means we can pay our labor a better wage, and a fair price for the raw material, because the cost isn't going to storage, transportation, import fees or other layers of middle-men.

We've noticed that people are hungry for this approach, but it's very difficult to cut through the marketing claims around a wide range of products, including the ones in our industry. "Organic" has become a catch-all term for quality, but it leaves out many other factors. "Cold-pressed" means one thing, but doesn't indicate the post-processing or many other indications that would allow a consumer to understand the production circumstances of a certain oil. If a company is headquartered in Cyprus, or assembles a product in Cyprus, does that mean it is truly made in Cyprus? We would say, no. We think the best way to fight greenwashing and other BS marketing is to get people in touch directly with the producers, and judge for themselves.

Now, we participated in our fair share of holiday, village and other markets in Cyprus since launching our business in 2022. We are so grateful for these experiences. We met so many new customers, partners, growers, and friends, even though the markets themselves spanned from the good to the bad to the ugly. Yet there are many products being marketed as "local" while in fact they are not. It's hard for us and many others to distinguish the difference. So, we thought what's missing is a platform where members of the community can come and meet small producers of consumable and artisan products that are actually made locally, from local raw materials. Many times, as in our case, the seller isn't able to support a large distribution network or scale of production, and so it's hard for them to be discovered and reach the general public.

We are grateful that our space in Kornos has a serene backyard setup perfectly for hosting small-scale markets, and our location is conveniently accessible from Larnaca, Nicosia and Limassol. In 2025 we experimented with a few formats at inviting members of our community, growers, makers, producers of all sorts to share their work. Now we're ready to make it a regular happening. So, starting on March 15, and every third Sunday of the month we will be hosting a five-hour gathering featuring 10-15 vendors of handmade artisan and consumable products. For spring, the event will run from 10-3, and in summer it will switch to an evening/night market. We will serve fresh drinks, including a (truly) cold-pressed juice bar, and some healthy snacks and treats. Please join us! And if you're interested in participating as a vendor, get in touch so we can send you the application.
