The Castor oil tree (Ricinus communis) is a plant that can be found in many parts of the world and is thought to originate from Africa. It grows fast and produces red flowers that turn into spiny seed pods. Inside they contain the castor beans.

In the ancient Egyptian medical literature, castor bean is mentioned as kiki. The seeds of this plant resemble the bodies of ticks. Theophrastus, refers to the plant as "κρότων" (tick). The genus Ricinus means also "tick" in Latin. During the Middle Ages, the plant was called "palma Christi" as the leaves of the Castor plant look like a hand. It's also a reference to the healing power of the oil, literally the palm of Christ.

Castor plants grow very well on the banks of rivers and lakes. During summer and fall we collect the ripe castor seeds from the coastal areas of Cyprus. We separate the seeds by hand. Then, in small batches we cold-press them and slowly filter the oil without using heat or chemicals.

The ricin remains in the pulp after the pure oil is extracted from the bean and thus, is not contained in castor oil. Our castor oil is viscous and has a strong nutty smell and pale yellow appearance.

Castor oil has been used as a healing agent since ancient times. Dioscourides mentions the use of castor oil in oil packs and even in the oil lamps. Castor oil is a widely popular carrier oil for haircare as it's considered to promote follicle growth (that's why we include it in our Hair and Beard Oil).

In traditional medicine, Castor oil is used to treat skin conditions and reduce inflammation (See our Body Wellness Oil).

In recent times, Edgar Cayce, known as the father of holistic health and the "sleeping prophet" recommended the use of castor oil for various health problems and popularized its use. It is most often prescribed for correcting imbalances of the abdominal organs, as well as for muscle and other connective tissue injuries, as well as a variety of skin and hair conditions.

Our castor oil is 100% pure, unrefined and hexane free.

For external use only. Do not apply in open wounds.

Castor Oil review

Hi Jared, thank you for putting such wonderful energy into your castor oil. I could feel it when I started using it. It is also smooth & smells great! I touch a bit to my third eye each morning, & I rub some into my liver area also. I know the liver is one of the main organs in the human body regulating our health. And the info received from Edgar Cayce channeled by Lea Chapin was so helful in many ways. I look forward to purchasing more of your essential oils in the near future. Thank you for all that you do.
