Our Inhale Essential Oil was produced via co-distillation of Lavender leaves, Rosemary flowering tops, Wild Myrtle and Bay Laurel twigs. The unique combination is a result of research into the plants used in Cyprus in wintertime to help with breathing, and also some happy “accidents.” It gives a very invigorating and sharp “punch” to the airways, while still smelling quite pleasant and complex.
In Cyprus for lung ailments, a common practice was to inhale the vapors from bay leaves, eucalyptus and myrtle, which were boiled in a pot of water, while another combination mentioned was bay laurel, rosemary and eucalyptus for inhalations, but also for bathing infants. We sent our Myrtle and Rosemary essential oils for lab tests, and discovered that both had percentages of eucalyptol and camphor.
Of course, the most famous go-to essential oil for breathing is eucalyptus. We tried distilling a few species of eucalyptus that grow in Cyprus, (although it’s not native, the British brought it to dry the swamps and now it’s quite invasive and wide-spread). But there were many “off notes,” inherent in the pure essential oil from those trees that made it somewhat unappealing (some said it smelled like cat pee!). Then we noticed that the bottom of the lavender plants, which are usually pruned and discarded, have a high proportion of eucalyptol, and a very appealing smell too!
This essential oil can be used as a respiratory blend. Diffuse a few drops diluted in water or put a few drops in your hands or on a piece of cloth and inhale deeply. It’s great for winter months in and out of Cyprus.
